Abstract

Sorting, without exaggeration, the most common operation of any technological process or human life. Sorting criteria can be masses, volumes, dimensions, forms, properties, parameters, quality, taste, style, color, etc. Examples of sorting can be: sorting of railway wagons at sorting stations; sorting goods in shopping centers; sorting drugs by appointment in pharmacies; sorting of banknotes and coins by denominations in banks, shops and wallets of consumers; sorting census data by one indicator or another; sorting books by library properties in libraries and book storages; sorting archive documents by storage units in archives; sorting of copies of films by titles on the bases of film distribution; sorting vegetables by type and quality in vegetable bases; grading of rubble by size on construction sites, etc. Recently, they have been added to sorting by enterprises and the population of municipal solid waste, i.e. garbage, by types. Of particular interest is the algorithmic sorting, in which the result of sorting is determined not only by the source data, but also by the adopted algorithm of their processing. The two types of such sorting are best known: sorting of postal units and sorting arrays of numbers, which this article is devoted.
