INCREASE THE ACCURACY OF CALCULATING THE SELF-SIMILARITY COEFFICIENT IN PACKET NETWORK TRAFFIC
Abstract
A method is proposed to increase the accuracy of calculating service quality characteristics in a packet communication network with self-similar traffic due to a more accurate determination of the self-similarity coefficient or Hurst exponent as a function of the parameters of the probabilistic distribution function of the time interval between packets. For the case when in the self-similar traffic the time interval between packets is described by the Weibull distribution, a new formula for calculating the self-similarity coefficient of traffic is obtained on the basis of the shape parameter of this distribution. The calculation of the characteristics of service quality can be performed on the basis of the well-know Norros formula. With an increase in the accuracy of calculating the Hurst exponent, the calculation accuracy of the quality service characteristics also increases.Downloads
