Abstract

The general problem of establishing the dependencies of the dispersion characteristics of optical signals on their spectral characteristics is formulated. The dispersion properties of signals with a rectangular spectrum are analyzed. The dispersion characteristics of signals of arbitrary shape are proposed. Finite formulas are obtained for determining the dispersive properties of signals with a concentrated spectrum and for signals with a bimodal spectrum. A simple metrological scheme for determining the dispersion characteristics of signals of arbitrary shape is proposed.
